Timing.

I am impatient.  I am action-oriented.  I get things done.  When I get excited about things, I make them happen, now.
+
I (we) have huge dreams: to go a certain somewhere, do be doing a certain something, to be in full time ministry, and to be used by God.
but...
God knows.  And God's timing is not my timing.  Maybe God's timing will never be what I think.  I read about David... He was anointed to be King, as a boy, yet for (I don't know how many) years he ran from the current King's death threat.  Yet God still fulfilled his promise.  I bet there were times when David thought that he would never escape, and surely never become King.  But God was still there, in the midst of things.  God had placed his promise in David's heart, and God was the only one to fulfill it.

I pray for God's timing.  I don't want my timing.  I want to be right in the middle of the will of the One who knows all and has the best in mind.  The gift and calling He has placed in our hearts cannot be revoked (Romans 11:29).  If His will is for us to wait, then it is for His Glory.  If His will is for us to move, it is for His Glory.  If His will is for us to be still, and know that He is God, He is working for His Glory.  And that is all I could ever hope for.

PS - Thank you for reading, if you did.  I know that these posts are not as fun for some of you.  It's a blessing to share my heart with you, though.  If any of you has a question about what I believe, please, email me.

  3. I am so right there with you! It is so good to know that there are others, you know what I mean? There are so many wonderful examples of waiting in the Bible, thank God for that. Our strength will rise as we wait upon the LORD!

  8. I loved this: "If His will is for us to wait, then it is for His Glory. If His will is for us to move, it is for His Glory. If His will is for us to be still, and know that He is God, He is working for His Glory. And that is all I could ever hope for."

you couldn't have said it better...you said it so well in fact, that I thought that what you said was from Romans 11:29...I went to find the verse and it wasnt there lol

    Thank you!

  9. Hi, Sarah!

Wow, what a lovely post. I come across your blog here & there, & after reading this post, it's spoken a lot to me. I'm not a religious person [although I do fervently believe in God] & I never really have been. I pray here & there for guidance & anything else, but I don't have the kind of piety & steadfastness in my faith as you. A lot of factors have really rocked that, I'm ashamed to say. But your post today has touched a part of me that I've been pondering & dwelling on for quite some time.

I'm a very impatient person & I'm always wondering when I'm going to get a turn at things. I always try to tell myself it will happen when it's right. Your blog post has reminded me of a quote I heard: things aren't happening now not because they never will, it's because you're just not ready yet.

And it's true. And I'd like to thank you & your post for reminding me to keep my heart & mind on being patient & waiting, because everything will fall into place once I'm & anyone else are ready.

  14. I am in this exact season. And it's so hard because I "think" I want everything in God's timing, but really I try to talk Him into my timing. It's hard sometimes. But I know that His timing really is perfect. And He really does have my best interest at heart. Loved the post!

  15. I love these types of posts! I know what you mean, sometimes it feels like God will never make His move...but then one day boom it happens! Gal 6:9 (I know you aren't growing weary of doing good but this verse helps me when I'm in "the waiting stage")

  20. sarah, i love your blog! i read your blog when you put updates on facebook, but now i'm officially a follower. what a great post! God's timing is always perfect, but it's hard to remember that. we want things when we want them! we weren't 'planning' on having a child right now, but God's timing is way better, and what a blessing! we have the same prayer: of going somewhere to be used by God, but we aren't sure when this would happen, and we have a hard time waiting upon the Lord, but all we can do is wait and pray...
"And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised." Hebrews 6:15

  26. You know, it's ironic that I read this post tonight. Actually, it's not really irony, because God is not ironic.

As I'm sure anyone who's ever come across my blog can tell, I often struggle with being single.

A friend is up visiting whom everyone that knows me and has met him thinks we should date, that we're perfect for each other. But we're not.

Yet, within this struggle of being single, every time I see him, I contemplate caving. Forcing something to exist between us that I know doesn't.

But this post is a reminder that I don't need to go for someone just because friends and family think I should. I'm waiting on God and His timing... and when that comes, I think my mind will be blown. I won't be settling for a relationship that I can 'kinda see working', but will be going forward into one that I know is right.

So thank you Sarah, for sharing those words of wisdom.
