Goodness!

Has it really been two whole weeks since I've last blogged?  I can't believe it!  I have been pretty forgetful and a little out of it lately, and time has just flown by.  I have missed blogging, but I think because I was so sick and exhausted, I was nervous that every post was going to sound like a venting session.

Did you get that?  "Was" sick!  I am not one hundred percent yet, but I'm getting closer!  I'm still completely tired all of the time, but that is so doable in comparison to around-the-clock nausea!  Now, it just comes over me once or twice a day, so I'm assuming that within the week, things will be even better!

On Monday, I will be 13 weeks pregnant, and you can expect an update!  I saw a friend yesterday, and he said, "Oh, it looks like you're showing some!" ...So, I guess I'm showing a bit more!  I think I'm excited about that, but it's something different to wrap your mind around!

Speaking of pregnancy and such, I have a question, and I want your opinion.  At the Birthing Center we are going to, they only offer one ultrasound at 20 weeks.  However, here in town we have a place that does 3D ultrasounds, and they say that they can determine the gender at 16 weeks.  The 20 week one is covered by our insurance, and the 16 week one is not.  I am going back and forth about what we should do!!  I so desperately want to see our little one, but I don't want to be too impatient!  Have any of you run into anything like this?  Is it worth the money to find out a whole month earlier?!

  1. So glad you are feeling better these days! For us, we waited for the 20 week ultrasound (that our insurance also covered) and went on a day trip celebration after we found out. It was really special. We did not get the 3d ultrasound before or after and it added a lot to the excitement of meeting our baby on her birth day. We knew she was a girl and that was enough for us. Do whatever makes you all the happiest! There is no right or wrong. :) Again, so happy you are feeling better! Enjoy this fun time of your pregnancy!!!

  2. we used a midwife w/a birthing center and only had the 1 20w sono too. while i didn't do the 3D ...i did pay out of pocket for another sono ....that was at 8 weeks though...just confirming! i begged hubs for a 3D after the 20w one...he said nope! haha i say go for it...but w/the 3D i would prob wait a bit longer....to see a clearer image on the 3D...i think the further along the better the image??

  4. so glad you're feeling better!! :) As for the ultrasound - everyone will have a different opinion so you really just have to do what feels right to you. For me, I would get every sonogram I could. I would want to see my baby every chance I could get and I still don't feel like it would ruin or make the birth less special. But do what feels right to you both! :)

  5. I did the "extra" ultrasound at 15 weeks and don't recommend it. I don't think it's worth the money, most of the 3D places don't have trained medical professionals so it's more of a money making thing for them, and I just didn't think it was worth it really. Gives you something to look forward to if you wait!

  6. I really wanted to find out the gender as early as possible, but my husband didn't want to pay out of pocket, so we waited until 20 weeks and I think I am glad we did. There was so much excitement and anticipation leading up to it and when that day finally came and we got to see our little girl, it was so special. That being said, it was really hard to wait that long, so do whatever you guys think is best. You can never see your baby too much :)

  7. Well, this "old" woman did not have either option when I was having my first child 35 years ago. :o) The Dr. made his prediction based on the heart rate, he guessed a boy and I had a boy. I can't imagine having all the modern means of seeing the baby and knowing what you are having. But, I think it is wonderful and whatever decision you and your husband make will be the right one for you two. Blessings on this most special time in your lives.

  9. Hi, if you want to know the sex of the baby, wait till 20 weeks of pregnancy. In 20 week you have 100% certainty to know it... if the baby show it to you :-)

But I agree with Lauren, I also wanted to see our little one every chance I had. But we have different (insurance) situation in my country, so I have ultrasound every visit in doctor´s office....

  10. i am an ultrasound tech, and i say wait until the 20 week appt. i think it is worth the wait! you will know for SURE (100%) at that time. also at the 16 week 3D ultrasound, the baby won't have all of the features/shapes/character as a later 3D would. either way will be fun, but i think the longer you wait, the sweeter it will be! :)

  11. I'm glad you're feeling better! Can't wait to see another bump picture! I'm sure you're looking great!! We have only done the ultrasounds our doc decides to do--our first one was what they thought was about 17 weeks--turned out to be that I was really only 14 weeks and they were still able to tell gender. However, because it was so early on, they did another one at the true 16 or 17 weeks and confirmed the gender and some other anatomy checks they had to do. Now, my doc won't do another one unless something comes up. Although I've been tempted to do the 3D...because I want to see her little face so badly, I've read not to do those "recreationally" so we just decided to stay with our doc ultrasounds only. To each her own though for sure!

  12. If i'd had the money, I would have waited to pay for the 3D ultrasound until AFTER 20 weeks. See Me 3D was something like $70 bucks for just a black and white gender check, and $100 for the whole 3D package, so.. for the money, we went with the whole 3D package, but we did it right around 22 weeks (because our doc appt was inconclusive about gender). I would have, ideally, waited until he was more developed to see him in 3D.
