I believe that Christ can change lives. Period. When I talk to people in dire or extreme or crazy situations, that's the only advice and information I can offer. But I think that it's pretty sufficient.
I'm addicted to reading. I can't tell you what a freedom it has been to be able to read for fun lately, and not for school! I'm just so happy! When I was little, books were my friends (yeah, I was one of those kids). My two best book friends were:
Elsie Dinsmore
Somewhere along the line, these books were lost. I want them back. Seriously. I'm going to buy the whole set for my (someday) little girl.
&
Mandie
I read all of these books. They were just wonderful.
Thank goodness for imaginary book friends, right? (What a nerdy childhood I led!)
I wish I knew how to sew. My mom has taught me only a few basics. My goal is to learn more before I have a baby. She's so talented and I really should take advantage of her knowledge! I just need to go ahead and get a machine.
I'm jealous of people with super-nice cameras. I think I want one for my birthday. I just know that there are so many other things that I could get that we actually need. Just in case I do get one - which one do you all prefer? What is the best brand? Best buy for your money?
Soundtrack/Mantra for the Week: What you see and hear depends a good deal on where you are standing. (C.S. Lewis)
Good luck with your new job!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for the new job.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand what you mean about reading for fun! It wasn't until about two years after college that I even wanted to pick up a book. My sister and I had the entire Mandie series...too funny-brings back memories! I have a Nikon D40 and I LOVE IT. I know like five people in my immediate circle of friends that have one too. Birthdays are for fun gifts...go for it!
ReplyDeletecongrats on the new job! love that c.s. lewis quote.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job!
ReplyDeleteI also read the Mandie books! Definitely classics!
Regarding the Camera- I bought a Canon Rebel XSi last year and it was quite possiblly one of the best purchases I've ever made. I don't think I could ever go back to a point and shoot. I'm in love with it. I paid about 700 but they've gone down since :)
Happy Monday! :)
I'm right there with you on the sewing machine. I really would like to start sewing but I think the only way to learn is to just buy one (or I'm going to ask for one for my birthday).
ReplyDeleteWe have the Nikon D40 and like it.
Good luck with the new job and have a great week!
yay for working at the church! You're so cute Sarah about sewing, I am the same way! I got a sewing machine{a cheap one for $30} in hopes of learning how to sew, and all i made was a few pillows and some curtains.{nothing fancy} Now, I'm determined to learn how to make some kiddo clothes! haha. I wish there were some classes or something around here!
ReplyDeleteoh, and about a camera, I got a nikon d3000 for a graduation/christmas present last year and I l-o-v-e it! :)
happy first day of your new job today! :)
I am so with you on the camera thing! Let me know if you get any good tips!!! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job! (:
ReplyDeleteI used to love love love reading (I was one of those kids too!) but then not so much. But I'm just about to finish with my course and I can't actually wait to choose my own books and get reading stuff that I adore. xo
me and Elsie go back too!
ReplyDeleteand how lovely to work in a church. some days i wish i could work someplace like that.. :)
if you get any good newbie sewing tips once you start, let us know! i too, would love to be a crafty little sewing wife. oh well...one day.
learning to sew is so hard! But so rewarding!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new job!!
ReplyDeleteI have a Pentax K2000 its a lot like a Nikond40 or a Canon Rebel but it was a little bit cheaper and it takes just as good of pictures. I got it off QVC and did flexpay so I only had to pay a little bit a month for it so that was nice!
#1 Working for a church is such a blessing. Good luck starting your new job, I know that our admin assistant works super hard to keep our office running, but she also LOVES it.
ReplyDelete#2 Amen sister, Christ changing lives is AWESOME and AMAZING
#3 MANDIE! I was so in love with those books growing up! I can't wait for my daughters to read them someday! I even had the two bonus holiday books that were set up as a skit for you to do with your friends, I will also confess that I rented the newly released MOVIE of the first book (not as good as the book) and made my hubby watch it with me. lol
#4 Sewing is amazing, I just finally bought a sewing machine with my birthday money. It was on sale at Costco, and is a great starter machine. I took sewing classes when I was growing up, there are some fun adult classes too that can help you learn the basics with others who are just learning.
Ps, I love your blog and are convinced that we have a ton in common.
oh man, my hubby was definitely that kid, too. books were so his best friend! haha! I have never heard of either of those books though.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new job!
ReplyDeleteI love the DSLR cameras!! I'm obsessed with mine. I just bought mine in March, after the LCD in my small digital camera broke. I bought the Nikon D3000. I got a package deal, so I got: the body, 18-55mm lens, 55-200mm lens, lens hood, and camera bag. It's really easy to use, and takes amazing photos!!!
Btw, my whole package deal was around $700 at Best Buy. If I was going to get a camera like that, I would look at the package deals instead of buying everything separate.
ReplyDeleteI was just telling Keith yesterday that I wish I knew how to sew! I'd love to be able to make my own clothes and always have something fabulous to wear! :o) Hope you are having a fantastic Monday! That picture of you and your grandparents is so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness! i used to be addicted to the Mandi books when i was younger!! yay! i never knew anyone else who read them... now i do!! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new job!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see a sewing machine, I mutter those same words. One day I'll learn! Same goes with the camera!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job and good luck! What a blessing to work at your church and under your grandfather! Have a great day! (even though it's almost over ;)
Hey, thanks for visiting my blog awhile back...sorry it has taken me so long to come over and say Hi, I have been a little MIA.
ReplyDeleteI have worked for a church for almost 4 and half years (full time)...most days it is a blessing. :)
I am thinking of buying a sewing machine this week...Target has a great deal on one this week and I was just reading about it!
Also, I LOVE love love my DSLR. I got mine for my birthday last year. I have the D60 and I got the package deal, it was worth it. Part of me really wanted a Canon, but they cost a little more and I got more for my money with the Nikon. I highly recommend spending the money on the warranty though...mine took a spill this weekend and balled my eyes out, but it's all better now because I had the warranty!
Yay for your new job!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could sew too :)
We recently got a Canon Rebel and LOVE it! It comes in lots of different prices too which is nice :)
Congrats on starting your new job :-) That's great! I wish I had a fancy camera too, and actually knew how to take really good pictures lol.
ReplyDeleteI had the same friends... I mean... books! :)
ReplyDeleteAs far as a camera. I highly recommend Canon's digital rebel. I'd also recommend getting the camera body and the 50mm f/1.8 lens. It's much cheaper that way, and I honestly can't remember the last time I used my "kit" lens! If you have any questions, let me know! I love helping people with photography :)
Good luck with your new job! And hello - stunning bride! You are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI was so surprised that we both were in love with the Elsie books (my mom still has my collection. lol)! THat is so wild. Great minds think alike. And congrats on your new job! love you girl!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job! I hope it starts off well! The Mandi books were some of my very favs in preteenhood too. LOVED THEM! Fun to find somebody else who did too (most people have never heard of them). I would really enjoy a new camera one day...I'll look forward to reading the advice you get on that score...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I used to LOVE the Mandie books!! :)
ReplyDelete(If you look in my About Me blog post / link...you will see me professing my love for these books as a kid!)
Very exciting to hear about the new job. What a great opportunity for you — working at a church and under your grandpa! I agree with your statement too that Christ can change lives ;) Have a lovely day!
