The Heart of It All

Well, as promised, today I'm sharing a bit of my heart on Bon Blog Designs and the changes I'm making.

I have been designing for about a year now, and I just love it.  It is a great outlet of creativity, and I get to know some awesome bloggers so well.  I love having the opportunity to help others and see their vision for their blogs.  Plus, I just feel as if I'm having a blast every time, and that makes it all worth it.

The other day, however, I was reading this lovely lady's blog and some of the organizations that she has on there, and I mentioned to Billy, "I wish I could start a business that just helped fight a cause."  Immediately, I felt God screaming into my head: "You already have a business."  And, then, not immediately, I prayed about it.  I talked to Billy about it.  He prayed about it.  We didn't need to take all of that time to think and pray; we pretty much knew what the next step was.

Also, oddly enough, I didn't have to think very hard about where to send the money.  I actually am not revealing that yet.  I'm still communicating with the organization, but hopefully by Wednesday, I'll be able to share with you all where the proceeds from Bon Blog Designs are all going.

I don't think that my consistent readers would be very surprised because you all know where my heart's at.  I'm more surprised that we haven't chosen to do this earlier.  I'm excited to share more about where the money's going.  Just know that it has something to do with Anti-Slavery and Prostitution.  (Again, who's surprised?!)

"Remembering" & Giveaway

The other day, I was trying to remember this Bible verse, and was wondering how I could most effectively put it somewhere that I would read it all of the time.  Seeing as how I'm almost on my computer all the time (hey, it's part of my job), I decided to make a background for my MacBook's desktop!
I started out with something more simple:

Then, of course, I got really excited about the whole thing, and I decided to work just a little harder, and I got this:
I am just so thrilled!  I keep looking at it, and I almost have the verse memorized!

This is where you all come in to help!  Should I add this as an option for sale on Bon Blog Designs?  Would you all like to have this kind of thing on your computer desktop (it could include a picture collage, a verse, a quote, or anything else you can come up with)?

To find out, I'm going to do a giveaway for a custom desktop background with the scrapbook kit of your choice (I used Paislee Press in mine - I can't get enough of their designs).

To Enter:
1.  Become a follower on Sydney's blog.
2.  Tell me your idea for a custom desktop background (what you would include, etc.).
3.  Tweet about this (and include me in your tweet: @sarahannrogers).

(Obviously, leave ONE COMMENT per entry!)

The giveaway closes at 10pm, Monday, Feb. 28.

It's an easy thing, and nobody may ever see it but you.  However, it's been making me smile every time I see it, and I'm wondering if anyone else would want something similar!

Photo Tutorial

I promised you a tutorial on Monday on how to get the photos you post to have this border and shadow (not visible in Internet Explorer, but definitely in Chrome, Safari, and Firefox):
(Don't hate me because I'm beautiful...)

Anyway, this is so easy that I felt I had to share!  I was editing each of my photos to have a shadow before I uploaded, but it is so much easier now!

Step 1:
Go to the "Design" tab in blogger:

Click on "Edit HTML"

Step 2:
Scroll down under "Edit Template" and find ".post img" (most browsers allow you to press Ctrl + F or Command + F to find the specific wording).

Step 3:
Enter this text between the { and } after ".post img":

-webkit-box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.199219) 0px 0px 20px;
background: white;
border: 1px solid #CCC;
border-bottom-left-radius: 5px;
border-bottom-right-radius: 5px;
border-top-left-radius: 5px;
border-top-right-radius: 5px;
padding: 8px;

Example:

Step 4:
Click "Save Template" and you're finished!

Variables:

  • To change the sharpness/dullness of the corners, edit the numbers under: "border-bottom-left-radius," "border-bottom-right-radius," "border-top-left-radius," and ""border-top-right-radius."  Right now, the radius is at 5px, but if you make it 10px, the corners will be more rounded, and that continues as the number grows.
  • To change the white space between your image and the border/shadow, change the number under "padding."
  • To change the shadow size, change the number after "-webkit-box-shadow"that is currently "20px"

Warning!

  • Do not change, delete, or move any of the colons or semicolons!
  • Do not seperate numbers from the "px" with a space!

If you have questions, leave them in your comment and I will email you back!
Enjoy!

Winners & Roses & Getting Older

First, I'm excited to announce that the winner of the Green Giveaway is Ria Thurston from Life as a Wife!
Congrats, Ria!  Email me at sarahannsbonmot@gmail.com, and I'll get your bowl and sweet yellow towel!

Second, it's my birthday today!  When I woke up, I stepped out of bed to a trail of roses leading to our kitchen table where the husband had left me a card!  What a lovely start to my day!  I have the best husband ever!  He's made me so excited to be having a birthday!  Marriage is just so lovely!

Also, my birthday gift to myself was a new blog design!  I'm sorry if I'm making your head spin by switching it up again, but I just had to do it!  You don't have to switch out your buttons for me, but if you so desire, have at it!

The only thing that could make this day better is a party with all of you!  We could eat cookie cake (since I like it better) and blow up balloons and play hot-potato.  Ok, so maybe not.  But we could hang out and have a blast.
