Work It!

I'm trying to lose some weight.  Marriage has made me happy, and I keep eating.  And that, well, puts a little extra weight on.  When I say a little, it really hasn't been much.  It's just enough to make me feel off.  Therefore, I am trying to just live healthier!

Here's my strategy:

Zumba!  It's awesome!  I have been going and I think that I might go tonight for a second time.  I just love that I can forget I'm working out because we're dancing.  And before you get worried, I don't shake anything too much.  I don't think I have much of that rhythm, so I just do what I can while being modest.  And while turning bright red.  That's right - after even 10 minutes of working out, I become a tomato.  And it's not pretty.

Water.  I love my Camelbak, and it makes it much more fun to drink water.  I try to drink a few of those bottles a day, more if I'm working out.

Black.  Ok, so this doesn't make me thinner.  But when I wear black, I look skinnier.  It's tried and true.  It'll work for you, too.

One of the things I find about myself is that I need simple, applicable things to integrate into my daily life.  No crazy crash diets for me.  I'm an extreme person, and I might do really well for a few weeks, and then I might go the other way.

What small steps do you take to live healthier?

If you haven't entered the Green Giveaway, make sure to do it soon!

  2. the water thing is a great one! I had to do a crazy diet last summer (my doctor made me - food allergies, not weight problems) anyway, it was super healthy and I noticed my hair got shinier and fuller and my skin was clear and glowy! If only it wasn't such a restrictive diet!

For me, cutting wayyyy back on sugar really helps! I'm like you - I turn beet red when I work out! haha

  3. green tea!!! Drink nothing but green tea and water all day for about two weeks and you will lose weight I promise. Eat half a grapefruit with breakfast and lunch and that helps a TON too.

  5. HOORAY FOR ZUMBA!! :) As you know, I'm a terrible dieter...it only lasts a week, maybe two, when I attempt, so I probably am not the best to give advice haha. But at least for me, the things I tend to keep up best are small adjustments that still taste good...like replacing more sugary or fatty foods with delicious foods that still taste good but are lower in fat/sugar. That I can actually keep up with! Haha ;)

  9. zumba is so fun! I wish I still had access to classes!

But yes!! So glad you're drinking tons of water. That's so so important. I keep a big one on my desk and find that I'll drink it when I'm bored, which is a good thing. I often drink more than 8 glasses a day out of boredom, LOL.

  10. Well, since November last year I've lost 30 pounds and it all came from taking small baby steps and then adding to them... The current step is information. Now that I have portion control, under control I'm caring more about WHAT goes in my body. Diving into super foods and stuff! Crazy interesting. Making my own sweet potato and kale chips and stuff like that!

  11. Good for you!!!

I registered for a 1/2 marathon in December this month. I needed a goal and that's always something I've wanted to do for myself. I'm already seeing the benefits of training!

I also add a few lemons slices to my water bottles and find that I drink a TON more water this way.

It was much easier for me to do this in my 20s though! I wish I had not slacked during the end of that decade (even though it was technically having two babies and not necessarily slacking!!).

    Have a great weekend :)

  14. Oh I've always wanted to try Zumba! Maybe I'll have to quit the excuses and try it!

I've always found that healthy living helps when someone is easier when done with a friend/spouse. I love being motivated by my friends or extremely athletic sister...boo ;^) Also, cutting back on processed sugars has really helped...weight and mood!

Good luck! Sounds like you are doing great!

  20. Wahoo to trying to be healthy! I decided this month to be a '30 days of no junk food' month. It has been hard, but it's almost done... now the real challenge will come in trying to eat in moderation instead of simply cutting it all out.

Good luck to you, the zumba especially looks like a good plan!

  22. Love my camelbak too, crazy how much more water I drink now that I have it.. I have it with me all the time!
Zumba sounds fun- not sure where its offered around here but I'd love to try it- I need to mix up my routine a bit- getting bored with the same ol' stuff!

  23. Water is huge for me! I drink a ton everyday and it replaces soda or other high calorie drinks for me. Enjoy Zumba! I love exercise classes (I think I need the other people around to stay motivated) and Zumba is one of my favorites :)

  24. Hey Sarah
I'm constantly trying to shed a few pounds! :)

I just found this new website that kind of helps you track - it's not a crash diet or anything - just helps you have a visual.

The website is www.thelinediet.com - you put your goal weight in and it calculates where you are based on the day. You put your weight in every day and it graphs it for you! I really like it - it helps keep me on track.

  25. i have heard so much about zumba...however, i'm shy about dancing since I really have no rythm. :) love my camelback too! hubby has one and isn't quite as crazy about the straw, so he takes off the entire lid to drink...but I love the straw...it is fun! working on being healthier too...we say we put on our the newlywed weight instea of the "freshman fifteen" like so many people do in college.
